California law requires extensive public outreach during the transition to Vote Centers. The Alameda County Registrar of Voters (ROV) is working diligently with the community to gather input on Vote Center placement. All meetings are designed to help shape the future of voting in Alameda County.
The ROV established a Language Accessibility Advisory Committee (LAAC) in 2012 to assist and advise county elections officials on existing programs to reach voters with limited-English proficiency. To be part of the LAAC, please email vca@acgov.org.
The ROV has established a citizen advisory committee to make recommendations for improving access to voting and election materials. This Voting Accessibility Advisory Committee, or VAAC, is designed to advise and assist in ensuring all voters in Alameda County can vote independently and privately. To be part of the VAAC, please email vca@acgov.org.
The Alameda County Registrar of Voters is creating a coalition of community members to work cooperatively with our office to provide feedback and help identify additional outreach and education needs in targeted communities. To be part of the VEOC, please email vca@acgov.org.
One of the biggest changes of the Voter’s Choice Act is that there will be no longer assigned polling places. Instead, you will be able to vote in person at any Vote Center.
Similar to Accessible Voting Locations used in the November 3rd, 2020 General Election and the September 14th, 2021 Gubernatorial Recall Election; Vote Centers provide a convenient option for in-person voting that replaces polling places. Vote Centers will be larger than a traditional polling place with more staff to assist voters and more voting equipment. Instead of being assigned to go to one specific polling place, you have the option to choose any Vote Center in Alameda County. Vote Centers will also be open for several days before each election, giving you even more options to cast your ballot when and where it is most convenient for you.
If you voted by mail before, your voting process will be mostly the same under the Voter’s Choice Act. However, there are a few minor changes that will make it even easier to cast your ballot.
Now all voters will automatically receive a Vote by Mail (VBM) ballot. You do not need to submit a VBM request. Ballots will be mailed about a month before each election, giving you plenty of time to mark and return your ballot when it is most convenient for you. No postage required if you use the provided return envelope.
