PURPOSE

To scan and tabulate every Voter’s ballot accurately for the current election. Once ballots are scanned, to properly store them in specifically labelled boxes.

BALLOT RETRIEVAL FROM VBM ENVELOPE OPENING

Vote Count Room Workers retrieve racks of blue bins which contain ballots ready to be scanned.

Ballots are scanned by a HiPro (high-speed scanner). Each of the 16 HiPro workstations has a two-person team; a Scanner Operator and a Scanner Assistant.

Leads oversee the scanning process for all teams.

STAGING AND SCANNING THE BALLOTS

Ballots are kept in the same order as scanned when placed in a the ballot box for storage. Each storage box is given a unique batch label that identifies the HiPro scanner station, the type of ballot and the batch number.

The Type of Ballot categories are:

  • Vote-by-Mail (VBM);
  • Election Day (EDAY) or;
  • Provisional (PROV)

The labels are pre-printed in different, easily recognizable colors:

VBM: RED
